⚠️ CONTENT WARNING: This episode includes open and honest conversation around mental health, ADHD meltdowns and suicidal thoughts. Please look after yourself while listening and skip this one if those subjects feel too close to home right now. Support resources are included in the show notes below.

A long, critical situation can strip the dopamine out of everything and leave you feeling like your brain has crashed, even when you’re doing your best to hold life together. We take a listener question from Tracy and get painfully honest about what an ADHD meltdown can feel like, from the “glitch” where everything pauses to the full-body overwhelm where noise hurts, decisions become impossible, and tiny demands are the final straw.

We talk through what helps when the stressor is not going away: shrinking the time horizon to the next ten minutes, reducing input before you add strategies, and using “body first, brain later” check-ins (food, water, sleep, heat, screens, the loo). We compare our different regulation needs, including when one of us needs movement and the other needs escapism, and why that difference matters in relationships. We also share practical supports like safe dopamine, gentle state-breakers, body doubling, and tools such as weighted blankets or compression clothing, all with the reality that you may not be able to access the same solution every day.

If this resonates, share it with someone who needs a softer, more practical way through ADHD overwhelm, and please follow, subscribe, and leave a review so more people can find the support.
